Why Afghanistan? and Al-Quaeda connections to pipeline consortium

The points here are:

1. The oil and gas reserves of Central Asia are huge, and as yet un-developed. This represents a hugely important area for American interests. Afghanistan is the key for transporting this oil and gas.

2. American/ Saudi led consortium of oil companies ( Unocal and Delta Oil) had formulated and negotiated plans for a pipeline through Afghanistan to access these resources in the years prior to 911.

3. The Saudi company Delta Oil has some of the most important sponsors of Al-Quaeda on its board!

This is all mainstream media reportage, but I link to intermediary sites instead whenever payed subscriptions are required at the original sources.

1. Pipeline Politics Taint US War - Chicago Tribune

‘“The invasion of Afghanistan is certainly a campaign against terrorism,” wrote author George Monbiot in the Oct. 22, 2001, piece, “but it may also be a late colonial adventure.”

“The war against terrorism is a fraud,” exclaimed John Pilger in an Oct. 29 commentary in the British-based Mirror. Pilger, the publication’s former chief foreign correspondent, wrote, “Bush’s concealed agenda is to exploit the oil and gas reserves in the Caspian basin, the greatest source of untapped fossil fuel on earth.”

... According to the book, the Bush administration began to negotiate with the Taliban immediately after coming into power. The parties talked for many months before reaching an impasse in August 2001.
The terrorist acts of Sept. 11, though tragic, provided the Bush administration a legitimate reason to invade Afghanistan, oust the recalcitrant Taliban and, coincidentally, smooth the way for the pipeline.
To make things even smoother, the U.S. engineered the rise to power of two former Unocal employees: Hamid Karzai, the new interim president of Afghanistan, and Zalmay Khalizad, the Bush administration’s Afghanistan envoy. ‘

Gosh…

‘…“Osama bin Laden did not comprehend that his actions serve American interests,” writes Uri Averny, in a Feb. 14 column in the daily Ma’ariv in Israel. Averny, a former member of the Israeli Knesset and a noted peace activist, added, “If I were a believer in conspiracy theory, I would think that bin Laden is an American agent. Not being one I can only wonder at the coincidence.”’

2. This Telegtaph article confirms the high stakes. Uncertain of the date, but clearly prior to September 11th 2001.

Warring nation holds the key to oil riches of Central Asia

In summary, the prize is huge, strategically and economically...

‘…But there is an immense problem. The Central Asian republics are all land-locked and there is no way to get the oil and gas out. So a race has begun to find a route. There are three main contenders. Russia wants to tap into the mineral wealth of its former empire by pushing pipelines from its Black Sea terminal at Novorossiysk eastwards towards Kazakhstan.

Iran, which dreams of being a powerful player in the region, talks of driving a pipeline from its coast at Chabahar via Mashad into Turkmenistan and beyond.
Pakistan is keen to have a source of oil that bypasses Iran and Russia
Georgia, already at work on a pipeline crossing the Caucasus to tap the fields of Azerbaijan, thinks it could eventually be driven across or around the Caspian into Kazakhstan. But to Western, and especially American interests, none of these options look attractive. Georgia is too unstable, and the idea of allowing a Russian or Iranian hand to rest on the oil jugular is considered too dangerous. Hence the attractions of Afghanistan.’

‘…Unocal, the Californian oil company, in alliance with Delta Oil, the Saudi Arabian company, has been in negotiation with the Taliban, as well as rival warlords, for much of this year over terms for the Turkmenistan-Pakistan pipeline. Preliminary agreement was reached between the two sides long before the fall of Kabul last month.

A vice-president of Unocal said last week that the victory of the Taliban could help the country if it brought stability. That would allow international investors to fund the pipeline, and eventually bring billions of pounds a year in transit revenues to Afghanistan.

Oil industry insiders say the dream of securing a pipeline across Afghanistan is the main reason why Pakistan, a close political ally of America's, has been so supportive of the Taliban, and why America has quietly acquiesced in its conquest of Afghanistan.

Pakistan is keen to have a source of oil that bypasses Iran and Russia. The evidence is already overwhelming that the Taliban, which orignated as a group of 2,000 religious students in refugee camps and religious schools just inside Pakistan, have been funded and partly equipped by Pakistani intelligence agencies throughout the two-year campaign that has now led them to Kabul.’

3. The prime force behind Unocal’s partner in the proposed scheme, Saudi company ‘Delta Oil’ is said to be one Mohammed Hussein al-Amoudi and a certain Khalid Bin Mahfouz. These men are important sponsors of Al-Quaeda.

Saudi clans working with US oil firms may be tied to Bin Laden - Boston Herald December 10th 2001

‘Two billionaire Saudi families scrutinized by authorities for possible financial ties to Osama bin Laden's terrorist network continue to engage in major oil deals with leading U.S. corporations.

The bin Mahfouz and Al-Amoudi clans, who control three private Saudi Arabian oil companies, are partners with U. S. firms in a series of ambitious oil development and pipeline projects in central and south Asia, records show.
Working through their companies - Delta Oil, Nimir Petroleum and Corral Petroleum - the Saudi families have formed international consortiums with U. S. oil giants Texaco, Unocal, Amerada Hess and Frontera Resources.

… Much of it revolves around a 1999 audit conducted by the Saudi government that reportedly discovered that the bin Mahfouz family's National Commercial Bank had transferred at least $3 million to charitable organizations believed to be fronts for bin Laden's terror network.

U. S. and British authorities also reportedly looked at Al-Amoudi's Capitol Trust Bank in London and New York for similar activities.’

Khalid Bin Mahfouz is later included on the United Nations report 'Terrorism Financing, Roots and trends of Saudi terrorism financing' (page 11)

Henry Kissenger was initially selected by the Bush Admin. to head the 911 Commission, but resigned when he was later ordered to reveal his business interests as a condition, (he is known to have connections with Unocal). The Bush Admin. tried to argue against this but Congress insisted and he resigned.

Unocal connection.

Kissenger was replace by Thomas Kean, who himself can be shown to have sufficient connections to DELTA OIL, to act as a considerable disincentive to impartiality.

The Reality of Afghan Life

I believe there is a disgrace upon our nation.

Life for the Afghan people is worse in many ways after the fall of the Taliban. I believe the invasion was justifiable, but this does not excuse America and Britain for the prevailing conditions in Afghanistan today.

Afghanistan is one of the poorest nations in the world. Most of the aid money for reconstruction has been swallowed up by corruption or simply filtered back to America. The western backed war lords have power again. Organised crime and corruption have flourished. Conflict with the resurgent Taliban is widespread. In many ways peoples' lives are now worse.

Cancer rates and birth defects have greatly increased due to the use of depleted uranium weapons. These weapons are so well suited for their destructive purpose that the army will defend their use as far as possible. However the resultant effect on people’s health, even our own soldiers is terrible.

Western leaders like to say we have liberated women and brought democracy. The reality for women is more complex. Prominent Afghan women such as former Karzai minister Dr. Sima Samar have said that life is more perilous than ever for many Afghan women.

The allies dominate this part of the world because of its strategic importance and immense wealth of natural resources. For ordinary Afghans there is no happy liberation

New 911 Investigation Needed

A Keith Olbermann report suggests that the Bush administration has used ‘terrorism’ to frighten and distract the media each time there has been some revelation of incompetence or deception regarding 911 or the Iraq war.
To see the report you would have to skip to it in this documentary which I do not endorse otherwise (1:32 The Ultimate Con).+++

Every time a US govt.intelligence failiure or controvery is revealed, it is followed by a frightening terror warning from Homeland security, the Govt or the intelligence services. There are some amazing revelations in here, made even more so by the fact they are always followed by dire, but baseless terror threats. These threats are used at strategic times, and are later revealed to be baseless, or months, even years out of date.

What we know already is damning enough. In addition there is much still being concealed it seems.

A new and full investigation would have a lot to reveal. As to who would have the skill and authority to do such a task…

This Olbermann report reviews the Bush govt. actions in its first 8 months in office regarding the terror threat. Important warnings and recommendations where repeatedly ignored, the terror threat was actively given less priority. This has already been revealed by the 911 commission.

911 commission co-chairman, Lee Hamiltons
+++ believes there are lots of questions unanswered, because they where given little time or money to do the investigation. He said it felt as if they where being set up to fail. They where only given a year, and 3 million dollars which he said was not enough time or money. The investigation into Clinton's affair was given about 64 million dollars.

So I do not think there where any problems with the personal on the last commission, just that they where not given enough time, money and possibly co-operation.

A new commission could take the last report as its starting point, be given indefinite time and money (within reason), and learn lessons about how to get access to information, co-operation and look at points for further investigation or unanswered questions.

Was the Omagh Bomb Allowed to Happen?

Detailed Prior Warnings:

The families of the Omagh victims have been calling for a full Cross Border Public Enquiry into the attack. Former agent and ‘whistleblower’ Kevin Fulton, who had infiltrated the IRA alleged that he had warned security services in advance of an attack. He claimed this information could have prevented the attack if it was acted upon.

The allegations where investigated in 2001 by the Northern Ireland Police Ombudsman Nuala O’Loan. BBC

The report concluded that Kevin Fulton was considered as a reliable informant. His warnings did not. specifically mention Omagh, but gave information about suspects, possible plots and the location of bombs.

‘Mrs O'Loan said: "My conclusion is that even if reasonable action had been taken on the information from Fulton, it is unlikely that the Omagh bomb could have been prevented."’

However, O’Loan’s investigation also found that there was another warning by an anonymous caller which specifically mentioned an attack in Omagh on the 15th August, the day of the bombing. The warning was not acted upon by Special Branch. If it had been, and it should have been, the attack could well have been prevented.
BBC Archive Report

Developments Since 2001 Ombudsman’s Report
.

The Nally Report investigated claims that the Garda failed to pass on information to the RUC about the Omagh bomb plot and allowed it to happen. The Nally report denied the claims.

Michael Gallagher, father of a bomb victim and Chairman of the Omagh Support and Self Help Group, has said that the report is inadequate because it did not include the evidence of,Paddy Dixon.

According to the Observer:
‘Dixon was the most important police informer (Garda) inside the Real IRA in the crucial months leading up to the 1998 Omagh bombing, which left 29 dead…

In total, five Real IRA bombing missions were thwarted, thanks to Dixon's intelligence But in order to give Dixon credibility within the terrorist organsation… the Garda ordered that a number of attacks be allowed through. They included a massive bomb attack that devastated Moira in February 1998. No one died in the blast, but the next sortie allowed through, however, would have far more serious consequences.’ Observer

In short Dixon claims the Omagh bomb was allowed to go ahead. Again Nuala O’Loan is convinced Dixon is credible.

'The puzzle remains - why won't the Garda let Paddy Dixon talk to the PSNI?' Michael Gallagher

New Investigation

The families have been campaigning and lobbying to get a new investigation. New Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness has spoken of his support for the idea.

'"Republicans would be only too glad to co-operate with any independent, international investigation into the bomb explosion, because we think the PSNI (Police Service) themselves have questions to answer. There's a very strong belief within Irish Republicanism that the PSNI not alone failed to investigate the Omagh bomb properly, but the RUC actually knew about the bomb before it took place."

Only one man has been charged with the Omagh murders, south Armagh electrician Sean Hoey.

A judge is due to deliver his verdict later this year after studying masses of evidence presented during Hoey`s trial in Belfast.

But with Sinn Fein set to take their three seats on the Policing Board after backing Northern Ireland`s criminal justice arrangements, party representatives could now raise the case at the authority.

Mr McGuinness signalled his party`s determination to get answers.

"There are serious questions to be asked about the Omagh bomb investigation," he told the Ulster Herald newspaper.

"Nobody knows more about what happened than (the PSNI), and there`s a very strong argument for an international, independent investigation into the Omagh bomb investigation and the actual bomb explosion itself."'

Anti- Disinformation

Does Iran's President Want Israel Wiped Off The Map - Does He Deny The Holocaust?

04/19/06 "Kein Krieg!" -- -- -

"But now that I'm on Iran, the threat to Iran, of course -- (applause) -- the threat from Iran is, of course, their stated objective to destroy our strong ally Israel. That's a threat, a serious threat. It's a threat to world peace; it's a threat, in essence, to a strong alliance. I made it clear, I'll make it clear again, that we will use military might to protect our ally, Israel, and -- (applause.)"

George W. Bush, US-President, 2006-03-20 in Cleveland (Ohio) in an off-the-cuff speech (source: www.whitehouse.gov) But why does Bush speak of Iran's objective to destroy Israel?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Does Iran's President wants Israel wiped off the map?

To raze Israel to the ground, to batter down, to destroy, to annihilate, to liquidate, to erase Israel, to wipe it off the map - this is what Iran's President demanded - at least this is what we read about or heard of at the end of October 2005. Spreading the news was very effective. This is a declaration of war they said. Obviously government and media were at one with their indignation. It goes around the world.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you haven't already, this is an IMPORTANT story. Please read it. It exposes the spin put upon President Ahmadinejad's comments by the western media. Read the full story here.

The New Enabling Act

The danger is that the Legislative and Regulatory Reform bill will be passed by stealth.

It is strange that the Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill has not provoked greater outcry.

We have always been controlled by an elite class, but now we are seeing an attempted centralization of power. The ancient checks on government are being dismantled. This bill, parallel to Hitler’s Enabling Act, is a clear step towards dictatorship.

Summarising an article by, Paul Joseph Watson :

Blair's Legacy: Choking Every Freedom We Ever Had

‘The following liberties have all been extinguished.

- Freedom of speech: Under the 'glorification of terrorism' law the government can loosely define any political opinion as glorification of terrorism.

- Freedom of assembly: Under the Serious Organised Crime Act protesters need government permission before they can arrange a demonstration.

- Habeas corpus: For ever increasing lengths of time the government can impose control orders and lock up anyone they wish without charge.

- Guilty until proven innocent: Every offence is now arrestable in Britain and this includes dropping a cigarette butt on the street. For every arrest a DNA record of the accused is kept on a government database forever. Curfews are expanding to include children of higher and higher ages.

- Right to privacy: A national ID card is set to be introduced to register and catalogue the details of every British citizen.’ ( I would add the NSA ‘counter-terrorist’ activities, and the UK equivalent GCHQ?)

‘- Trial by jury: Blair has abolished the 800-year-old tradition of the right to trial by jury. Trials likely to last over 3 months can be heard by a single judge.’

The likes of Charles Clarke, Jack Straw and John Reid to name a few, are not servants of the people. At best they are ambitious and vain, loyal only to Blair and their careers. The same can be said for much of the party.

Destroy the falsehoods of the ‘war on terror’. It is in this manufactured climate that we are being oppressed.

a.) Reforming legislation

b.) Implementing recommendations of the Law Commissions with or without changes

Tyranny Manifests

Judges liken terror laws to Nazi Germany
London Independent /16 Oct 2005

A powerful coalition of judges, senior lawyers and politicians has warned that the Government is undermining freedoms citizens have taken for granted for centuries and that Britain risks drifting towards a police state. One of the country's most eminent judges has said that undermining the independence of the courts has frightening parallels with Nazi Germany.
Senior legal figures are worried that "inalienable rights" could swiftly disappear unless Tony Blair ceases attacking the judiciary and freedoms enshrined in the Human Rights Act.

Lord Ackner, a former law lord, said:
"I think it is terribly important there should not be this apparent battle between the executive and the judiciary. The judiciary has been put there by Parliament in order to ensure that the executive acts lawfully. If we take that away from the judiciary we are really apeing what happened in Nazi Germany," he said.

Lord Carlile, a deputy High Court judge, warned against the whittling away of historic civil liberties. "We have to be acute about protecting what is taken for granted as inalienable rights. In the United States the Patriot Act included a system whereby a witness to a terrorist incident can be detained for up to a year. This is in the land of the free."

The senior barrister remarked that judges had now replaced MPs as the defenders of basic human rights." People used to look to their MPs as the first port of call to deal with any perceived injustice by the executive. Now there is an increasing tendency for people to look to the judges to protect their liberties," he said.

If Mr. Blair's proposed terror legislation was unamended, said Anthony Scrivener QC, "Britain would be a significant step closer to a police state".

The Countercharge Comment

Thankfully this particular legislation was amended. However the amended bill still passed and destroys certain rights that we have had for centuries.
The agenda just rolls on with new measures imposed constantly as I hope this newsletter illustrates.

Where is all this going?

It is hard to say how far our leaders will take us down the road to tyranny. It depends how much the people will accept before it is too late. It is important that people are at least aware of what is happening.
It is also important to recognise that this is not a party political issue. There are members of parliament from all sides whose loyalties are not to the British people. In the interests of brevity more information can be found at, Prisonplanet.com and thecountercharge.blogspot.com
